Surface lava flow that started erupting from a fissure crack in the slopes of Kilauea continues to flow, advancing closer to the settlement of Kaohe Homesteads and the town of Pahoa. It is estimated that the lava patch is approximately 10 miles (17 kilometers) long and moving 270 yards (250 meters) per day, but it slowed down in recent days. Although not an imminent threat to people living on it's path, the lava flow may eventually reach Highway 130, cutting off access to Pahoa.
If you plan a visit to Big Island anytime soon, don't get to excited- there is no access to the lava flow an the whole area is now a restricted zone. Here's more info and video of the current flow:http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2014/10/03/video-overflight-video-captures-active-lava-flow-front/
